500 years after Martin Luther posted
the 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg,
the Jubilee Year offers many events, festivals, and exhibitions:
The Reformation
Jubilee will be celebrated with three National Exhibitions
in Berlin, Wittenberg, and at the Wartburg

"The
Luther Effect", German National Historical Museum
Berlin
The Reformation had alsting influence on German
history and changed the world. Thought and politics, life
and religion, the way people related to work and society underwent
a fundamental change. The exhibiition spans the time from
the Reformation to the present day. It focuses on the "Luther
effect": With an unflinching view beyond German and European
borders the exhibition examines the global effects of Protestantism.

"Luther
and the Germans", Wartburg Castle
The Wartburg is closely linked with Martin
Luther's translation of the Bible, with the development of
a common German language, and also with the Wartburg Festival,
the first civic pro-democracy rally on German soil. The exhibition
defines the meaning on 'German', describes the social situation
in the Holy Roman Empire, and the significance of Wartburg
Castle for the Germans and for Luther. Luther's authentic
living quarters await the visitor at the end of the tour.

"Luther!
95 Treasures, 95 People", Luther House Wittenberg
The first part of this exhibition, which is
located in Luther's home, will take a closer look at the history
of the Lutheran Church and Luther's impact on the history
of the world. "95 people" will be introduced whose
lives have been influenced by Martin Luther. The range goes
from Lucas Cranach to Ricarda Huch, from Johann Sebastian
Bach to Martin Luther King.
The second part features "95 treasures": valuable
items on loan from Germany and around the globe that are directly
related to Luther - things that the reformer either saw or
used himself. Brought together in a "vault", the
items on show are representative of ideas or events of the
Reformation.

1517 - 360° Panorama by Yadegar Asisi
Wittenberg |
|
Berlin
artist Yadegar Asisi revives history and nature in super-sized
360° panoramas. "LUTHER 1517" is the new project,
meant to become a highlight of the Reformation Jubilee 2017
in Wittenberg. To present the Panorama, a rotunda able to
house the 15 x 75 meter (50 x 245 ft) work will be specially
built in the old part of the city of Wittenberg. "A unique
feature of the LUTHER 1517 Panorama project will be the combination
of a Yadegar Asisi Panorama artwork with this world event
designed to commemorate the Reformation by the Protestant
Church in Germany as well as the Lutherstadt Wittenberg",
the developers say.

The Popes and the Unity of the Latin World
Mannheim
Before Christianity was split by the Reformation,
1,500 years of history united those who followed Jesus from
the very beginning in Israel. The papacy developed its spiritual
and secular authority troughout the centuries. Still today
even those who call themselves "non-believers" are
fascinated by the ceremonies and splendor when visiting the
Vatican and Rome. On the background of the Reformation Jubilee
this exhibition for the first time follows the question how
the people's imagination is captured by the Pope through the
decades.

Luther500 Festival
Wittenberg
Presented by the U.S. music group LOST AND
FOUND, this one week program is an intergenerational event
to learn, serve, and celebrate at the places of the Reformation.
While days are framed by worship, devotion, and music, participants
can choose from many activities throughout the day. Bible
studies and tours are offered in Wittenberg as well as on
day trips to other Luther sites in Eisleben, Erfurt, and at
Wartburg Castle. Servant projects in the city of Wittenberg
are an important part of the festival, and of course fun and
sports will not go short. Student's festivals are already
offered in January 2017, and special festivals for universities
or church districts can be arranged all year around. Already
in October 2015, group leaders are invited for an orientation
trip. More at www.luther500festival.com
