In the Steps of Marc Chagall

Essentially a trip in the footsteps of the great artist Marc Chagall would have to start in Witebsk (Whiterussia). It would have to lead to Berlin, passing St. Petersburg and the vicissitudes of the October revolution. And the tour should not miss the world known glass windows of the Hadassah hopsital in Jerusalem. But with this travel idea we limit the travels to a selection of his work which still can be seen in France and Switzerland.

Day 1 Arrival, Sarrebourg
Travelling in a modern private coach the tour first goes to Sarrebourg in France. After check in and a good welcome meal in the hotel you will attend an introduction to the life of Marc Chagall. Being one of the most important artists of the 20th century his works are the expression of a deep religiosity. Chagall had a high sensitivity for the questions, joys, and aspirations of people. Through his works he made religious questions tangible and touched many lives.

Day 2 Sarrebourg
After breakfast you'll visit the former Franciscan monastery with Chagall's largest single window ‚La Paix'. In the afternoon travel to Zurich and check in at a hotel for two nights.

Day 3 Zurich
In the morning visit of the Chagall windows in the Fraumünster abbey and paintings of the artist in the art hall. Leisure time in the afternoon to explore the town and to rest in one of the nice cafés.

Day 4 Lake Lugano, Nice
The tour continous through Italy for a lunch break at Lake Lugano. On to Nice after you (hopefully) enjoyed the sun.

Day 5 Nice
In the morning a local guide shows you around the main sights of the town. In the afternoon you'll visit the Chagall Museum ‚Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall'. As the name says mainly the paintings of the biblical message are presented here.

Day 6 Vence
On to Vence where Chagall spent his last years. You'll visit the Chagall decorated Baptism chapel in St. Lambert cathedral as well as the graves of Marc Chagall and his wife Valentina.

Day 7 Basel
Travel to Basel, the 3rd largest town of Switzerland. After dinner a concert or another special event could be on your programme.

Day 8 Basel, Mainz
Visit the Basel Art Museum with "The Falling Angle". On the way to Frankfurt airport you may stop at St. Stephan cathedral in Mainz and admire the 1978 finished glass windows.
