John
Calvin, who as a Pastor in Strasbourg was deeply involved into
the Reformation movement in Geneva and Switzerland, became one
of the Fathers of the Reformed and Presbyterian Churches. Being
in close contact with Philipp Melanchthon in Wittenberg and
the Reformers in Hessia he formed a reformation movements which
got his name. |
Day 1
Strasbourg
The first leg of this trip brings you to Strasbourg, where Calvin
served as the Pastor of a French congregation of refugees. Here
he spent some of his best years of his life. At a guided walking
tour you will see this amazing city with the impressing cathedral
and the many small timber framed house. After dinner you'll have
time to enjoy one of the many cafés.
Day 2
Basel
On to Basel, where Calvin authored his main theological work. City
tour with a visit at Basel Münster cathedral.
Day 3
Zurich
After breakfast your group will travel to Zurich. In this city Huldrych
Zwingli has served as one of the reformers of the first generation.
You will visit the Großmünster cathedral and get introduced
to Zurich and the Reformation on a guided tour.
Day 4
Bern, Geneva
Following Calvin's steps the way leads you to Geneva where Calvin
lived for 23 years. Stop en route in Bern, the nest of a strong
opposition against Calvin, which wanted to influence the development
in Geneva - the source of many conflicts with Calvin. The visit
of Bern and its cathedral will give the group a deep understanding
into the Reformation.
Day 5
Geneva
John Calvin lived in Geneva until his death in 1564. The entire
day will be to explore the city. St. Pierre is Calvin's congregational
church and place of many sermons. And after lunch your group might
not want to miss the Reformation Museum to get an even better understanding.
Enjoy the Farewell dinner and let the trip fade away.
